Series Favourite Does It Easy

19 February 2010

Monkey King proved why he is the Watpac Inter Dominion series favourite by sizzling around the Harold Park circuit tonight.
Showing very good gate speed to lead from four in heat three, driver Ricky May was able to dictate his own terms and go through the first half in a pedestrian 64.8 seconds (32.6, 32.2).
With second favourite Cincinnati Kid sitting outside him, Monkey King still ran the third quarter in only 30.0, giving him enough energy in reserve to ‘rip’ home his last 400 metres.
Setting the track alight with a brilliant 26.7, Monkey King did it easily to score from outsider Hava Bonvoyage, who sat behind him throughout.
Tanabi Bromac, who sat back in the field, rattled home for third in a mile rate of 2:00.3.
Another outsider, Few Good Men, was fourth after sitting three pegs, while Cincinnati Kid battled on for fifth after being heavily supported.
“He only did what he had to tonight,” May said of Monkey King.
“Brendon (Hill, trainer) is also delighted with his run and he will only get better as the series goes on.”
Monkey King’s 26.7 final split is believed to be one of the fastest, if not the fastest, closing quarter on the Harold Park circuit.
The son of Sands A Flyin was once again hooked up with his state-of-the-art racing gig, which he used when successful in the Miracle Mile at Tabcorp Park Menangle back in November last year.

Monkey King was installed Watpac ID10 series favourite in TAB Sportsbet pre-post markets, and his price is likely to shorten even further following his latest success.
